Serene Bedroom Paint Colors

When a client asks me to design their bedroom, I usually find they want it to feel like a relaxing retreat. Paint color plays a big part of that. Today, I'd like to share with you the best paint colors for a calm and serene bedroom.

First of all, did you know that color can have an impact on your feelings? Warm colors like red, orange and yellow can energize you while cooler colors such as blues and greens have a very calming effect. Notice the colors you are naturally drawn to, the ones you wear the most. Are the colors in your home the same as the ones in your closet?

When I think of calm and serene, I think of the ocean and soft, soothing blues and greens. These are very popular for bedrooms, and typically you'll find these colors at a spa for that very reason.

Gray is another favorite color for a bedroom. You might think gray is boring, but take a look at the undertones. A soothing blue-gray or green-gray might just be what your bedroom needs. However, don't just stop there. Remember to furnish the room in full so that your gray bedroom doesn't look like a cement block.

A warm gray such as the picture above will keep the room from feeling too cold. Using a darker gray like the picture below will give depth to the room. It can still feel calming and serene, but this will make it feel extra cozy.

Did you know white isn't just white? There are a variety of whites because they have different undertones. Whites that read a bit like a blue might feel too cold in a bedroom. I would look for a warmer white. A warm white will help you bedroom feel clean and soothing.

These are some of my go-to colors. I like to use them for bedrooms because they are soft. They are the best paint colors for a calm and serene bedroom.

While the paint colors will help give you a calm and serene scene, don't forget about the other key elements when designing your bedroom. Think about the bedding. Layering with texture is key here, and don't forget about the accessories – wall art, mirrors, shelf decor, drapes. All of these items contribute to a well-thought out space.
